Parenting Well Podcast: Connection First – Communication that Reduces Stress & Builds Trust |
|
Communication is often treated as a skill to master, but in this Parenting Well Podcast, Dr. Shelly Mahon and Susan Caso explore why it is far more complex than scripts and strategies.
When stress and anxiety are high, conversations can quickly become reactive, escalating, or disconnected. But when parents create emotional safety and presence, communication shifts from mechanics to connection. |
If you have ever walked away from a conversation wishing you had handled it differently, this episode will offer both hope and practical tools.

PARENT INPUT NEEDED: TEEN PHONE HABITS
Message from CU students to our parent community
We are working with CU students who are looking for insights from parents. Please read the passage below and respond if you are interested in helping. |
Hello, I am working with a group in CU Boulder's New Venture Creation class that is very passionate about the problem of youth phone addiction. The idea is to create a Strava-like app, but that functions as a social competition to lower one's screen time.
Teaching kids screen management takes intentionality and effort. And as our team has experienced firsthand, limiting one’s usage can be isolating. By helping young people lean on their natural social networks such as friends, families, organizations, or schools, we hope to supplement the effort that parents already make to educate their families on this topic.
To learn more about how families experience this issue, we’re working with PEN to gain individual zoom interviews and in-person focus groups with parents of teens. After the conversations, we’ll also gauge if anyone wants to stay connected and test our upcoming prototype.
Please reach out to schedule using this form.
